A quick question for Cubase 6.x / Nuendo 5.x users...

Hey all,

I try not to ask gear-specific questions in this forum (it seems like more of a conversational place), but I couldn't resist in this case.

I presume there are some users of Cubase 6.x and/or Nuendo 5.x, and both applications can be installed as 64 bit native applications.

My question is this:

Did Steinberg update all of the bundled plug-ins and virtual instruments to 64 bit as well, or are you expected to bridge the instruments and plug-ins through VST bridge or jBridge?

Granted, there may not be many bundled plug-ins that are worth the time, but there are a few decent virtual instruments (A1 and Monologue come to mind). And when I make the switch, I'd really like to use these without bridging.

Again, just curious.

Todd

I just updated to Cubase 6.5. Aside from the fact that it includes the most excellent Padshop (which is 64-bit and a fabulous synth IMHO), it's 64-bit through and through. All the VST plug-ins are located in the 64-bit program folder.

And gear questions are most certainly not only welcome, but encouraged! Don't think that because we're interested in things other than gear that we're not interested in gear - there are some real experts who hang out here.

Thanks Craig!

Boy, you use everything... I know Sonar is one of your primary applications, but I also know that you wrote a great book on Mixing/Mastering with Cubase SX. But I'm always amazed with your depth across software platforms and tools. I'm a mechanical CAD/KBE specialist by trade (with depth in three or four industry software mainstays), and it's always challenging to stay on top of developments across those platforms (especially if I don't use certain apps as frequently). Very impressive.

I'm going to get a PC Audio Labs Rok Box 7xs in a couple of weeks, and I'm still debating whether or not to install Cubase x64 with bridging or just Cubase x32. We'll see...

Thanks again,

Todd

Honestly, they're not that different. I can pretty much run a session on anything - Mac, Windows, whatever. Besides, it's a job requirement to know everything

That computer makes any program look good :)

The momentum is 64 bits. Bridging works well (all my 32-bit plugs run fine with Sonar), and the advantages of 64 bits are compelling, to say the least.

You can install them both side by side, a lot of people due including myself. If you use non Steinberg 32 bit Vst's the consensus at the Steinberg forums is to use jbridge

Loving 6.5

Thanks dman (and thanks Craig)...

I can't wait to get into a newer environment. It will take a little bit of time to get acclimated, but the newer versions are still similar to SX in terms of layout and basic workflow. But SO much has been developed since SX 2.0. I'll finally be able to quickly freeze/un-freeze insert effects, and the audio editing (and MIDI editing tools) are much more advanced. Between Cubase 6.5, HALion 4, and Wavelab 7.2 (and a new DAW, audio card/interface, and a UAD-2 duo), my studio will be completely revamped. Fun times ahead...
