Members HELSTRUME
Its funny cause EVH said alder was crappy wood, thats why he went with swamp ash. On another note, my buddy strat is poplar, and it sounds good.
Members Belva
Wow this thread has hit a nerve! The wood threads always do. Just wait until another poly vs nitro thread shows up. Sparks fly at those too. (OOOOOOPS!! Shoulda kept my mouth shut...........)
Members HELSTRUME
Damn you, interweb! You have failed me again!!! I wonder where I read that? Maybe I never read that but imagined it? I know that the article DID say that they took the amps outside and cranked them and they heard it echoing off of the moutains or something like that. It's interesting that the Phil Collen (Def Leppard of course) signature Jackson is a super strat with a maple neck and fretboard, but with a mahogany body with a maple cap. Since mahogany supposedly equates to warmth, oomph, and sustain I've always wondered if that is the magical combination... LP body, with a strat neck bolted on. Interesting... I played a Godin that was a mahogany body, maple neck/fretboard. Sounded great. My next guitar is gonna be a rear routed warmoth strat with a mahogany body, maple neck/ebony fretboard. Members JetCityMatt
Tone is in what days your garbageman comes. My garbageman comes on Monday and Thursday. I get the best tone on Mondays and Thursdays. Mine comes on Thursday. Only 11 hours to go!! I can't wait for the tonez!

I remember reading somewhere that they put maple caps on mahogany guitars to get the attack back that you lose from using the mahogany for the warmth. Did the Godin have any cap or was is pure mahogany. Come to think of it, in the early days Carlos Santana played an SG (which is all mahogany with no cap, right?) and we all know how good that sounds! (OOOOOOPS!! Shoulda kept my mouth shut...........) The funny thing about this site that I've realized (after returning to it the last couple days) is that it prevents you from PLAYING YOUR GUITAR. Other people probably have better self control thatn I do (less obsessive personalities), but once I get going I'm in trouble... following up on all the threads I've posted in when I get the alerts etc... Whenever I stop using this forum it's because I've recognized my obsession with it and have to "cut myself off" (and no, I've never had any substance abuse problems, BTW)! Members HELSTRUME
It was straight mahogany. The maple neck seems to adds good brightness, and I like bright Dimarzio pickups like the Evo. The mahogany seems to tame the highs, making it perfect. I've had guitars made of every wood, and I like mahogany the best.

The body consists of a center block of silver-leaf maple with light poplar wings. Silver-leaf maple is an excellent tone wood with a weight and density similar to mahoganyhttp://www.godinguitars.com/godinfreewayclassicleafp.htm

Oh well, at least I am finally making money now. I didn't realize that splated maple was a similar material to mahogany... Now I want a freeway again! Seriously. That's a lot cheaper than the $3,200 Phil Collen signature Jackson which is basically a super strat with a mahogany body with a maple cap.
Members ihavenofish
Shhh, you're not suppose to allude to the fact that only Americans are the only people in the world who give a flying {censored} about the term socialist. we care about the term... because we actually know what it means we just had a big state funeral for the leader of out socialist leaning party. (its extremely rare to have state funerals here for anyone) anyway, poplar if a nice wood overall. for most people tone is in the eyes and wallet though. its grey/green ugly and cheap, so it must sound bad. ive actually had a few very pretty yellowish poplar blanks. my fretless is poplar with a burst. looks really nice.
