Members slushpup96
So I've been looking at getting a nice, not too big but not too small, Ampeg combo. I've been looking at getting one of those SJ-12T reissue things. They're discontinued but I'll just keep looking at craigslist till one pops up. Recently somebody posted an ad for an SJ-12R. It seems like they're pretty much the same however this one does not have tremolo. Apparently it has reverb, however this confuses me, as I know the SJ-12T has reverb as well. Is the SJ-12R just a 12T without tremolo? Any info about these amps is appreciated.
Members PrawnHeed
They are different. Apart from the tremelo, the 12t has 6L6 power tubes and the 12r has EL34, the tone stacks are quite different.
Members vintage clubber
Actually, I have an SJ12T with the EL34 power tubes. From what I was able to find, the early models had the EL34's and the later models had the 6L6's. I need to take mine back to my amp tech as it seems to keep eating pre-amp tubes and making popping noises... other than that, it is a sweet sounding amp.
