Why not just use fast fret? I put some on the back of the neck when it starts to get sticky and grabby. Works great. Just apply it with the applicator, lightly buff it with the included cloth, problem solved.

BTW, I'm not sure about lemon oil but I've tried regular guitar polish and it just makes it stickier.

Fast Fret is good but it increases string squeak. Keyser's Dr. Stringfellow works better without the added squeak.

I use very fine steel wool, it dulls the finish a tad, but doesn't leave a bunch of scratches if you go light with it. Don't forget to tape up your pickups first, those steel shavings are a PITA to get off your pickups.

Just use 000 steel wool. It'll take away the skickyness and be really easy to buff out.

OP, baby powder should be used sparingly, probably just on a rag to wipe down the back to absorb moisture.
