Members Roy Brooks
Those 1950s and early 1960s Fenders had relatively thin finishes. Considering that his Stratocaster was his main guitar for nearly thirty years and that Rory gigged frequently I believe that Rory Gallagher's Stratocaster achieved its level of wear from Rory playing it a lot. Also, working musicians play their instruments a lot more than most folks do.
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted July 4, 2012 Moderators Share Posted July 4, 2012 Rory had really acidic sweat . Were you his hygenist and carried out pH tests? The guitar was in a {censored}ing ditch for nigh on 3 days, that means the water got under the paint, therefore paint wood interface compromised, and to be honest anybody who played that thereafter would see the paint just fall off, go and have a look at any wooden painted building with the paint coming off....it ain't a perspiration issue:wave:

Members DaleH
Pulls it across the stage by the chord and has some fun but no real abuse. Just a great showman.[video=youtube;wCMDo2tsQqM]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCMDo2tsQqM&feature=related
Members csm
To be precise, Rory's brother (and former manager) Donal did ... but I'm sure RG would've approved.
Members Deanriffs
I played the Fender signature Rory strat in L.A. earlier this year, and immediately loved it. The large radius, essentially unfinished neck and sound made it one of the best I have played. I need to get one. Rory's playing is also just awe-inspiriing - he's definitely in my top 5 or 10. Members onelife
Those guitars did not have the same type of finish that modern Fender guitars have. Even Buddy Holly's strat showed signs of wear - and it could not have been very old.
