Members Greavette
I am going on a gig and I am stressed OUT! How do I relax and stop playing every single fill and lick I have ever practiced? I automatically play too busy and it stinks.....help me relax! Advice???
Members the DW
a) Try to keep the following fact in your mind: The vast majority of the folks at the gig don't give a rat's ass about your skill level. They are not grading you. In many cases, they are not even looking at you. They are there to enjoy themselves. Do the same! b) Just before going on, stand straight with arms at your sides. Close your eyes. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth slowly. Let it take about 5 seconds for each direction. Do this for a minute. c) The Electric Slide and Achy Breaky Heart are arguably the two most requested songs at party or club gigs (where the primary function is dancing). Why? They have a very simple beat that you can dance to. That is the key. Simple is better in the eyes of the audience. Always remember that! Try that. If all else fails, a shot of Jack Daniels before going on never hurts!
