I guess.

Well...most bookers want to see something...the bio is part of the promotional package. You can list the backgrounds of the members, their influences, etc....trite, but you have to start somewhere.

Yup. Agree 100%. List any past bands of the members, as well.

ASAP, everyone has something worth writing about. Hell, many artist bios don't list music experience as much as where the artist came from. Like Bruce Springsteen from working class family in Asbury Park, NJ; Eddie and Alex Van Halen as Dutch immigrants in Pasadena painting house numbers on curbs to get money for instruments; Eminem as an aspiring rapper from a trailer park in Detroit; James Taylor growing up in a mental hospital;... Everyone has something worth sharing.

Bios evolve. As the band gets more gigs, gets some press, etc, the bios follow suit. Eventually it becomes the last sheet in the promo pack, the gig resume and press releases are up front with the band pictures, contact numbers, website etc.

Most bookers want to know what they are getting, beyond the CD, tape or MP3 you give them. If the band is new, there is no 'resume', so the bio, listing, as BlueStrat mentioned, other local bands /national or regional acts that members were in is helpful for them to gauge the bands appeal, style, etc.

True, crappy promo packs garner crappy gigs, but crappy gigs should lead to better gigs...and the process begins.

Immediately...

You have to have a bio with a well written discription on who you are and what you do. Lots of good advice above, as it will certainly evolve over time. You know in your signature you could even add a byline about your music along with a link in most all of your message board travels.

In order to promote your music for more exposure on any OMD, a bio is needed, and needs to be kept current.
