Members theDan
Do only bass drum heads fit on bass drums with wood hoops or can I still put a tom head on it? I'm about to buy a 16" bass drum to replace my 18" baby who was picked up today (RIP) but I imagine it'd be hard to find a 16" bass drum head. If you guys know a good source of where I could find 16" bass drum heads, let me know! Thanks guyz

Members jenksdrummer
A 16" bass drum? Where do you wind it up?
Members pinkpunkcaddy
I think it should work. I just looked at some un-mounted heads and it looks pretty much the same.
Members theDan
Thanks for the responses guys, the PDP pics are coming in due time, lol. I just moved them to our entertainment room (for some rough recording) and they're set up, just looking for the camera.
Members rothy
Any 16in head will work, however I'd definitely recommend using a 2-ply head for it. Remo Emperor, pinstripe or Evans g2, ec2, etc....
Members FitchFY
TheDan, the difference between bass drum heads and tom heads is PURELY based on the thickness. It's still a standard drumhead, manufactured the same way. The change is that the heads, by nature, are much thicker and durable, as a bass drum is used consistently more than a tom head. The same actually goes for snare drum heads in this regard. If you buy a 16" tom head for the bass drum, I'd also definitely go double ply, or something really thick! Good luck! Members cearleywine
the difference is actually the thickness of the aluminum ring around the head. Bass heads have a much larger ring for the bigger hoops. But I think they usually don't make 16" bass heads so I believe they also require tom heads.
