Members Thomas G
If you want the new SCV eights exercise, go to this link (U of A Audition packet) and download the different parts for it. http://web.cfa.arizona.edu/drumline/members/packet.php I personally haven't looked at the tenor part myself, but I hear it's crazy hard with all the splits. And look at the flam exercise I have to learn. blech. me no likey.
Members 1001gear
Why the specific sticking on the Hemiola snare parts? Did they narrow it down to the most critical moves in their line?
Members Thomas G
Hemiola was made to build double-stroke rolls, not so much the rhythm, which is the reason for the sticking.
Members 1001gear
I'm looking at it and frankly I don't see the doubles work out. In some instances there's that da dat, da dat, da dat... etc with triple sticking. LLLRRRLLL etc. I suppose that would be the Hemiola reference but in other parts the sticking seems strictly for choreography. Just for personal benefit I'd do this hand to hand both ways and then sticked (stuck?) with the natural swing. The Eighths exercise makes sense as a technical requirement but the Hemiola drill just seems randomly specific. Members Thomas G
It builds strength and control. The idea is that if you can play threes proficiently, twos come out no problem at all. That and it helps teach how to relax with difficult patterns.
