Members ermghoti II
Musashi and Black Panthers spring to mind. I have the Yamaha, it would be killer at $500, but it's usually about $220 new. I got mine on clearance at GC for $179.

Members marko46
All good/great suggestions. manoeuver's has ended but there's another one at the bottom of the same page, far right side. cearlywines picks are both good. I've played the Mapex and owned the Ddrum Ash. The Ddrum Maple's nice to for the $. And of course you could thank Doug later also.

Members JimmyNZ
How much in US currency Jimster? Seems excessive. Damn near a wood block. With heads. It's a hefty little bugger all right, he has it with a starting bid of $800NZ which I worked out at $507US marko...it would certainly be good for a workout mate. Members cearleywine
I picked up one of these used for about $135, excellent value and wood hoops! +1, I got mine used for 125. I cranked up a modern vintage and slapped some german bronze wires on it. Big dry crack with full body while still being very sensitive. IMO these are worth more than their retail price, I'm glad we both got deals on em.
Members boomboomdrums
this I got one of these I got new for Christmas in 1972. It kicks total ass. I've never had the desire to get another snare drum.
