Trying too hard, too soon?

Regarding the threads there's a lot of people who are:

- wanting to increase their vocal range

- believe anyone can sing like the guy in Journey

- want to hit opera singer notes

- straining to hit the high notes but can't understand why they fall short

It sounds to me that people are:

- trying too hard, too soon with not enough lessons/experience/practice

- want instant gratification/success but lack patience/dedication

- not warming up enough

- in need of professional lessons and guidance and need years of lessons/practice not just a dozen or so lessons.

- overly optomistic and need to get a grasp on reality

Just my take on the last few weeks of discussion...

Reading your post, I think I probably fall into at least one of those categories. :p

I think it's great though, that we can hear other, probably more experienced and knowledgable singers' more objective opinions and critiques of our singing though. It most certainly grounds us to reality and teaches us a lot about how we actually sound as opposed to how we think we sound when we sing.

I would most likely say, sure I'm sure many do fit that...but then again that's also partly why everyone is here as well. The very fact someone comes and even bothers to ask " why am I having problems _________ ?" shows that they do want to learn ways to improve, which in itself is not a negative thing in the slightest.
