Members Darkstorm
In that price range ($500 & under) your diff going to do best with a humbucker/soapbar pup equipted bass. ESP Ltd B or F series, and the lower price Schecters are best choices imo for that sound etc. ESP Ltd's advantage is 3 band rather then 2 band eq's. For the $500-$600 range the BC Rich NJ Warlock is good choice. The stock P pups for neck & bridge have better grind & growl then the competitors P pups imo. Mahogany body with maple neck & ebony fretboard being a very good wood combo for the sound your wanting imo. Very good 2 band active eq.

Members bleepo
If I were right handed, I'd own this. $350us. Eithr in the cool colour, or flamed maple.
Members Adrenochrome
Almost anything with a humbucker somewhere near the bridge. And if you don't have much cash an OLP will probably do it [just try it first!].
Members Thumper
P bass---MIA, MIJ or a good '80s knock-off like Tokai or Greco Epi T-Bird Ibanez ATK--anything with a pup that massive has gotta be good.

Members LO_RYDER
Try Warwick, Tobias, ken Smith...if you are looking to spend some $. If not, try Fender MIA P-Bass. Also your amp plays a major factor if how your sounds is produced. For big bass try Ampeg.
