Members Retrovertigo
which album are we talking about? If it is CCBBB, filter out every part of your bass' signal except mids and run it through a transistor radio.for everything else, you gotta have the right technique. Members BigPigPeaches
From what I understand (and I will be corrected if I'm wrong), he uses two A strings and two G strings on his 4-stringers. Might help a bit.
Members Jazz Ad
Even if he uses very expensive instruments, his main tone can be approached with any bass equiped with an EMG soapbar in bridge position, then EQ with a lot of treble and nasal mids. Push the gain a lot to get a bit of distortion on attacks. Then a pumping compressor, a couple effects when needed and good fingers.

What he said. Also, for what it is worth, his two main basses are COMPLETELY different animals. His 4-string is fretted and shortscale, and his 6-string is fretless and 35". Members JanVanHove
Cheap to get his sound? yeah, maybe...Easy? not a chance... the guy is good at what he does! And a large part of his sound is not what he uses but how he uses it...
