Members azzzy Posted February 12, 2007 Members Share Posted February 12, 2007 I am fairly new to bass (I've played guitar for more years than I care to admit though). I wonder how close do you keep the pickups to your strings. On the guitar I try to get them as close as possible without losing sustain due to the magnetic pull (which is no longer an issue once I've swapped pu's to Bill Lawrence on half of my guitars). However I feel it may be different with the bass, since the sound I prefer is clean and punchy (as opposed to overdriven on the guitar). Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Members slapthefunkyfour Posted February 12, 2007 Members Share Posted February 12, 2007 I have one bass set up with the pups about 1/4" away.Another is set up with the pups about 1/8" away. This one I play with a very light touch. I like to set it so the pups are as close as possible without the string actually hitting the pup when it is plucked or slapped.
