Members Super_Donut_Man
So I have been painting my bass, and so far I have put on the following layers: Primer, and 3 layers of spray paint. The color is still inconsistent (darker in some areas). So.... If I keep putting more layers say 1 or 2 more, will that help with this inconsistency? Should I be sanding as I go along? I am going to do a clear coat as soon as my friend pinstripes this, but I have to finish the base color first. Also any tips for clear coating? Thanks
Members PaulyWally
1 layer of primer? Sounds like you needed more. Generally, if the hue is not consistent it means that there are areas of the wood that are soaking up more paint than other areas. And more primer (or a better primer) was in order. Members justinbass
keep layering it on until the wood stops drinking the paint and you have an even color.
Members sludgebass69
Sounds like you needed either a 2nd layer of primer or a layer of sanding sealer. Try wet sanding as you go too, it will make the final color sanding easier. Check www.reranch.com for tips and guidance if you haven't already. Members Super_Donut_Man
Well even if the dark spots are stripes, and looks like I just went over that stripe a bit heavier than the rest. does that seem like the same problem mentioned above
Members Super_Donut_Man
Fixed it. I was painting too heavy on a couple of passes.

Members Super_Donut_Man
Well I was going to post pics when it was done, but I shall post some when I gets home from work. Atleast here is the starting point. Its a crappy pic. It was this blue purple color, the bridge was rusty and messed up, and the input jack was iffy.
