CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted January 24, 2008 CMS Author Share Posted January 24, 2008 Looky who's now an Ampeg dealer. They had an 810e, couple of 410's and some SVT -pros and B series amps. No all-tubes. And....get this.....Phil Jones Bass!! They actually had three on the floor.
Members ModmanQ6
Indeed. I saw and played through all 3 of the Phil Jones models last month. I was shocked to see them there...
Members BoundandBlocked
Wow. Every time I've been there, there's just been hundreds of $100 Brownsville guitars and a handful of Ibanez and Hartke amps.

CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted January 24, 2008 Author CMS Author Share Posted January 24, 2008 I thought Scam Cash used to be upscale back b4 they decided to play Guitard Center's game? Way back (20+ years) they had decent gear in the suburban stores. The NYC store always had good stuff, especially guitars. But the past 10 years.....Hartke, etc. was the rule. Members cdb
last time i was in the sam ash in KofP, it was wall-to-wall hartkes. But they had some very nice basses. go figure...

Members catphish
Skyline only or also the US models? Not sure, but they only had skylines at the store I was at. I played a daryl jones skyline 5 that I really was enamored with, but the guy who was working there decided to park 10 feet away from me and pound some crappy slap thing at a volume that was so loud I could really get a good feel for the tone. It was almost humorous to me.

The company that owns Sam Ash also owns Hartke, so it is no surprise to see a wall of them there.
Members Spark
Last time I was at my local Sam Ash it was like a new place. They still had a lot of cheap stuff, but they've added Lakland Skyline, Eden, Warwick, have started to stock Ernie Ball again. Not that I'm really a fan of most of that stuff, but it's quality gear. Also, the service has gotten better, but maybe could still be improved.
Members catphish
IME Sam Ash > Guitard Center BUT....they have a very annoying practice of making you explain the return of an item to the salesman who sold it to you when you take something back. Members Captain Fathead
Hmmmmmm... I may have to hit it up soon. They had a genz benz 1200 and a 212 neo last time I was in the NYC one.

Members T. Alan Smith
Sounds like I need to hit 'em soon. Last time they had decent stock was several years ago. Seemed they let it dwindle down to nothing over the years.
Members Goofball Jones
They haven't been bought out by GC yet? I'm shocked....everything else has. Last I checked, Guitar Center, Musican's Friend, Music123 and Woodwind&Brasswind are all owned by the same company. Aren't they just dying inside knowing there is another chain retailer out there that they don't own?
