Members flip333
Hello, I'm looking for a slim neck bass with close action. I'd like to play bass in a second band. I'm playing guitar in one band now. The bass player has an American Jazz Bass that sounds very good to me. We practice at my house and he uses my Yorkville XS800 bass head into my Avatar 4x10 neo. I like it. Do any of you have a MIM jazz bass with upgraded pickups? How do you like it? Is it just better to get an American JB? I have an old 60's Alamo Titan I put a SD quarter pounder in. It sounds good to me but I would like better playability with a thinner neck. I have small hands. Is there anything else about this I should consider? Thanks. Members nAmzrTakin
I haven't personally upgraded my pups............yet I'm thinkin I'll go Seymore Duncans when I do. You'll be very happy with the Jazz I think. It plays like butter wrapped in naked chicks.
Members misterhinkydink
Traditionally a Jazz bass's bridge pickup is slightly longer than the neck pickup. On MIM Jazz basses up to 2000, they were the same size so you'll have to lengthen the bridge route slightly to fit most other bridge pickups. Members flip333
I'd probably steal the QP out of the Alamo, get a neck QP, and consider a Quan Badass II bridge. I read several reports of increased sustain and better tone with the upgraded bridge.

Hard to tell from the pic, but it is.

No string-thru body holes, therefore MIM Nice colour btw, I'd love to see a Jazz that colour completed
Members The Real MC
I put Dimarzio Ultrajazz pups in my MIM. Huge improvement.
Members Renfield
I only ever upgrade MIM J's with Barts. It's an unwritten law.
Members flip333
Bart = Bartolini ... OK... I'm learning a little. I'll do some research on that. Thanks.
Members bbl
Barts are nice. IME, they're "darker" and "smoother" with nice, pronounced midrange. They probably compliment a Jazz very well.
