Members srvaughnabee
Ive been playing guitar for some time now but Im thinking about picking up a bass to mess with. Any recommendations for some decent affordable basses and amps for a combined total of less than $800?

Members tubealot
Less than 800. There is a nice sale on the Yamaha RBX4 A2 at alot of online retailers for 250, it usually sells for 550. Thats a good savings. I got one with a bad truss rod. I may exchange it but shipping cost might stop me. If you order one get it from someplace you can walk in with a return like GC or somewhere. I don't play bass either.... yet.... I tried and got a bad truss rod. As far as amps.... I don't know. I got a simple apartment sized 10 watter. Good luck. Members ToeJamFootball
Squier Classic Vibe Precision - $250 from MF Squier Classic Vibe Jazz - $299 from MF Peavey TNT 115 200Watt Combo - $560 from MF Or you could get an Ampeg BA-115 for only $379 from MF then you would have some money left over to experiment with some pedals. EDIT: Here's some pics

Members willsellout
Do you know if you prefer a thinner neck profile or a thicker one. Jazz basses have a 1.5" width at the nut and P basses have anywhere from a 1.65-1.75" width at the nut.

Members willsellout
You might try any and all Jazz basses. They have thin neck profiles. Also a lot of the Ibanez soundgear stuff have super thin necks. IF you have a GC nearby or any music store really, you could go and try them out.
