Hey all,

Anyone know of any good stores/sites that ship instruments from Japan to the US, you know of funky models you just dont see here? I've googled, but always end up with sites in japanese with no translation options.

Thanks for any aid

Three. Not in any particular order.

Ishi and Guitar Shelter would be more likely to suit your need(s). Guitar Shelter folks are great(their web page doesn't show current stock, email them!).

Ishibashi. Main Info page: http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/e/about_text_version.htm

Bass page: http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/ubox.cgi?T=gazo&word=2&or8=32&key=&equal1=&value5=&select5=down&print=40

Kinko's. http://www.kinkomusic.com/help_11.html

Guitar Shelter: http://www.guitar-shelter.com/

They link to the mass web search engines below:

http://www.digimart.net/pub_gk_list.do?shopNo=70&s=REGIST

http://www.j-guitar.com/sp/lis/sho/sto_sam.cgi?sid=1221

You do have to be patient and dig around those sites.

Just so you know, these shops aren't allowed to send new CIJ Fenders abroad anymore.

thanks Jazz Ad, luckily i am most definitely not looking for a fender. im browsing this route hoping to find something unique, not something i could buy at guitar center....

It doesn't say how much. I asked one of my colleagues earlier who is from Japan. She said there were no specific details, just that there's a sale at the weekend on the used guitars.

I saw it in the advert banner on the Ubox.

Hmm.. last time they sent an email out .. dammit, I've had my eye on a particular bass for a fair while.. that may just send me over the edge.. maybe its a locals only sale..

Dropped my guy an email..

There are some really sexy basses on there, but on brands I'm unfamiliar with. Bacchus, grassroots, etc....

Bacchus are a brand from Deviser... who also make Headway guitars and STR Basses. Most of the Bacchus models are bootiful! But they make a few cheap chinese ones too. The Japanese ones are amazing to play and hear.

I've played a few Japanese Bacchus guitars (Les Paul, Les Paul with P90's and a strat) The strat was superb!:love::love:

Grassroots are a budget brand of ESP, they're made in China I think?

You have to keep looking.. try checking out www.ikebe-gakki.com ( http://www.ikebe-gakki.com/shopping_00.php?state=1 ) you can't order from them (well, you can.. but its too hard).. but its a great site to browse. Ishi is great to order from but their site is a bit lame, if you tell them what you want they can get it for you.

The japanese get loads of cool stuff that doesn't appear on the sites, you just need to dig around a bit.

Over the last year I've come across a 1979 'Heerby' Ric bass copy which just rocks like a mad thing, a 1979 Greco fretless (mint condition, turns out was a custom factory order), a 1967 Yamaha SB bass and a Fernandes 'crystal' Jaguar copy.. again is a one off custom order..

Its out there, just gotta keep your eyes open!
