Members Ryan.
Is this an easy fix? Do I just need some contact lube or should I take it in? Its only on one knob, when I turn it up from about 9.5 to 10 it starts crackling.
Moderators Kindness Posted September 3, 2010 Moderators Share Posted September 3, 2010 Easy fix. You simply need contact cleaner. Get it into the pot casing and twist the pot a few times to clean it up. You should be good to go!

Members Darkstorm
Sometimes contact cleaner spray like you find at radio shack will fix that. Sometimes its just temporary. If the latter and cracklies come back, then replace the pot.

Most pots will have a hole on the back of the pot into which you can spray some electronics/contact cleaner. Just a little spritz should be enough, then simply turn the knob from 0 to 10 about 15 or 20 times. to make sure the cleaner gets distributed. If it happens to be a hollow body guitar with no control cavity access, you may need a special adapter to spray the cleaner in from the front of the pot.
