Members summit111
My Brothers, For practice studio only, can a powered JBL Eon 518 be used as a bass amp? We have one that's not used much and I was wondering if we can use it instead of having our bass player drag his amp to practice each time? Moderators isaac42 Posted February 16, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 16, 2012 Short answer: yes, but you're going to need a preamp with that. Longer answer: it will work, but you probably won't like the tone. Subwoofers are designed to reproduce frequencies up to a few hundred Hz, at most, and filter out anything above that. Bass amps extend well into the kilohertz range, several octaves above what subwoofers do. Essentially, it will most likely sound like mud, with no definition. And if he has to use a preamp, he may as well just plug into the PA. Assuming they're using one and it has an extra channel available.

Members Flatball
Yes, but it will sound like "woof". The subwoofer doesn't have the frequency range.
