TC Electronic BG250??

Hello. First time here in a while.

Well, I have a small story to tell.

About three weeks ago I had an opportunity to try a new bass amp that was sitting in the practice room. I usually use an Acoustic B200 combo and have been for three years without issue. Very dependable unit.

This amp I tried was the Line 6 LowDown 300. It blew me away. After practice that evening I was convinced I wanted to buy one..but the guitarist who just got this unit wasn't selling it..(even though I had complete access and could use it at a gig...it is meant for the band room and needs to stay there)

So I got online with Guitar Center, tracked a used one down, talked them down to $219...shipped to the N.Charlotte store from Harrisburg all in all for around $248.

During the gear change I also bought a bass. So the Acoustic B200 was traded for that.

I paid for the Line 6 with my credit card. It arrived on 8/28.

Unfortunately, the Harrisburg PA store failed to cover the lower open area that leads into the internal parts of the unit....and it was completely filled with styro-peanuts all the way to the top. It had to be taken apart and carefully vacuumed and cleaned. Speaker removed, the whole 9 yards. When they plugged it up and turned it on it just didn't perform.

Guitar Center made me an offer on getting an amp from the store so I had my choice within reason to get what I wanted,so after some playing around a bit I chose the TC Electronic BG250 15" combo. It was great sounding, had the effects, even had tube emulation. So they gave me this unit outright for the $248 that I'd paid for the Line 6. What A Deal!! I just bought the extended warranty for $65

But...

and my question is:

Did I give up a very good Acoustic B200 that I knew was dependable

for a Better Amp?

Is this TC Electronic unit going to surprise me? Is it the bomb? Sure seems so.

I've read some great things on it

but I've also read the horror stories.

Any constructive suggestions welcome. Thanks.

The Line 6 LowDown 300Pro arrives at the N. Charlotte Store:

I played through one of those amps when visiting Nashville last year. I wasn't real crazy about the sound out of it, but the built in tuner and the tube emulator are nice features. They are also light weight. I think if it's going to have problems, you'll know right away. Never heard anyone having issues with the combos.

Suggestion #1: never buy the extended warranty on anything.

I've played through several TC amps and, while they all seemed well designed and such, their tone just wasn't what I wanted to sound like.

My only concern with that amp is being able to bypass the horn. Is there a switch for that?
