The weight needed should come mostly from the bow itself. Once you get used to holding the bow properly and having it completely perpendicular with the strings, try this excersize: Set your metronome (if you have one) to around 80 BPM. Do a full down bow on the A string in the time it takes the metronome to do 4 beats. repeat for the up bow. Make sure you keep your hand/bow position in mind the whole time. Now repeat the up/down bowing like before, but let the metronome count 5 beats this time. Keep adding beats until you can't make a sound by pulling the bow that slowly. don't move on untill you can get a good, full sound at 4,5,6 or however many beats you can make it up to right now.
