Members ratthedd
In another thread a discussion has popped up (again) of the merrits (or lack thereof) of being in a cover band. For those of you, like me, who are in covers only bands, here is a list of some famous covers by famous musicians who made the songs their own. Never feel bad about doing covers as long you you enjoy playing them and people enjoy hearing you play them. Jimi Hendrix: Hey Joe All Along the Watchtower Star Spangled Banner Stevie Ray Vaughn: Voo Doo Chile Mary had a Little Lamb Janis Joplin: Summertime Bobby McGee The Beatles: Twist and Shout A Little Help from my Friends Johnny B. Goode Roll Over Beethoven Van Halen: Pretty Woman Dancing in the Street You Really Got Me Rolling Stones: Not Fade Away I Just Wanna Make Love to You Little Queenie Emerson Lake & Palmer: Fanfare for a Common Man Peter Gunn Prelude and Fugue Toccata Any more famous covers you'd like to add? Members 60hurts
The only thing I'd like to add is: With A Little Help from my Friends is not a cover song, at least as far as the Beatles performing it!

The Dead did a lot of covers, but not so much infamous ones... You'd be amazed at how many people (well, you're probably aware...) think "Not Fade Away", "Goin Down the Road Feelin' Bad", "I Know You Rider", etc. are Dead tunes. Their covers have definitely came into their own enough to shake any signs of infamy, I think. Their covers are super popular. Steve
Members Faber
Derek and the Dominos' version of Little Wing. Who knew such a good song could sound so {censored}e. Proof that drugs will screw with your sense of selff criticism.

Members thirdstone
Elton John- Lucy in the sky with Diamonds Rolling Stones- Like a rolling stone In fairness to the stones, most people had no idea their early covers (pre-'66) were not original unless they bothered to look at at the song credits. Pearl Jam - Oh where can my baby be - probably their biggest hit- go figure! Led Zep - they covered a whole bunch of tunes, just didn't bother to credit the composer- Willie Dixon
