Members New Trail
If so, how does the guitarist get that maxed out sound? I'd never heard them much before and the guitars tones are beyond OD/distortion..........Any ideas?
Members mstreck
Don't know much about them, but "Down" sounds like a super hot pickup with everything on 10 - and a wah. Our bassist is a 311 nut. He wants to do some 311 songs but I don't think they had many hits. Down and All Mixed Up are all I can name off of the top of my head. Members josh3111
Beautiful Disaster, Come original, Flowing, Amber, and love song are usually a good bet. We do "Champagne" and are working on Beautiful disaster. I am not sure what Tim uses though for his distortion.
Members Kramerguy
Always sounded to me like JB Jazz specials with very overdriven solid state amps. I think this not just because of his OD, but his cleans are really sweet, but not tubish sounding.
Members josh3111
He uses a diamond tube amp, with a butt load of effects.
Members formula2fast
We cover beautiful disaster, and my tone is almost perfect for it. I use my dual rec (channel 3 modern) with a TS-9 tube screamer for some extra gain through my duncan performer humbucker (in a strat)and it sounds great. I know Tim uses a PRS and Nick uses a les Paul, so a humbucker in the bridge position is definetly going to get you closer.
Members mstreck
New Trail: 311 has a huge cult following (our bass player has a huge 311 tattoo on his back). If you're unfamiliar with the band, this helped me remember a few: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/311_(band)#Discography You can check the albums/singles and how they charted. Members cooterbrown
311's Tim Mahoney uses a PRS Santana, a Mesa double Recto or Tri-Axis, and an octave pedal, to get those heavy sounds on songs like "Down" and "Beautiful Disaster". He doesn't use distortion pedals, it's all amp gain.
Members Decipher
I've always wanted to do some 311 covers, but other than my brother (drummer) and myself, noone else is that interested..... Which sucks as 311 has some really fun tunes! Tim's used PRS' almost his entire career. His amps started out as Mesa Rec's, he's also used Rivera & Bogner. Currently he's been pretty steady on the Diamond Phantom's with V30 loaded Diamond Cabs (which live sound very good). He does use alot of effects, but his rhythm tone I'm very certain in straight up Tube.
