Sub Dilemma 2 (Bass Player)

We have a first call bass player who, basically, if he can't do a gig or doesn't want to do a particular gig, HE calls sub#1 or sub#2. The other night we played a gig at a new place with sub#1, and they really liked us and have already contacted us about booking another gig. The question is: should the first call bass player still get the first call on the second gig, even though he didn't play the gig that got us the second gig, or should sub#1 who played the gig get the first call?

It's unlikely their decision to rebook was based on the bass player. Unless he found the gig, and assuming he knows he's only a sub in your band, I'd go with the regular guy.

I am a bit confused about the 1st call bass player. If he is "your bass player" he plays if available, if he is just a hired gun, call whoever you want.

Your regular bassist is your regular bassist.

If you dont want to play gigs with him - fire him and hire Sub #1.

Our regular bass player is taking the gig. The way things are set up he is first call guy, and if he can't do the gig, he calls the next guy. So, even though he missed the first gig, he's playing the second gig...
