As a musician who has played at jukebox level, I disagree. If the music can sound good from the jukebox at that level, then good musicians can play it well at the same level.

You're a bright guy from what I've seen of your posts, but this, good sir, barely makes any sense whatsoever. I mean... there's some basic reality here I think you're missing in that a jukebox has a volume knob on it.

Just sayin'.

Anywho, mstreck, glad to hear your gig went well and you got some great experience out of it!

I think the point he is making is that knowing how to turn the volume down and sound good is a band skill. Some bands can do it and some cant ,, and some just refuse to do it.

Maybe then can and maybe they cant. Too loud is one of the most common complaints about bands.

Somehow that doesnt surprise me

I don't get your posts at all: you constantly go on and on about how your frontman/other players/venue/gig/gear/PA/locale/etc. are perfect for the situation you're in, and constantly try to school many other posters here about how they would do best to follow suit, even when (and often especially when) those same posters tell you they are (a) not in similar situations and (b) do not want to be.

What do you care if I or a billion other players don't want or need to play in a situation even remotely similar to yours?

The thread is about playing under the 89db. Why are you even in here? just to be a consistant and be a dick?

I basically commented I am glad I choose not to pursue gigs with such restraints; 100% addressing the thread.

You're the one who apparently feels it necessary to try and teach me how to do things the way that YOU see as 'right', and the one who's being the dick.

I'm just calling out your incessant jackassery.

I am curious, what DB do you guys usually set for bar gigs?

I'd be interested in knowing that as well. We don't normally use a sound meter, but we normally play in larger places where we really don't have to worry about it. They WANT us to be loud!

If I remember correctly, our sound guy measured us at 99db (?) at the board (about 10-12 feet from FOH) when we first started on Friday - and we were nowhere close to our normal volume.
