Members Cougar Hunter
Grinder, It's true the 2/90/2 has the same tube complement as the 2150, but the 2902 only runs at 95 watts per side. The 2150 transformers are the same size as the strategy, plus the main one in the middle is a torroidal, circular transformer about 7" in diameter. It's {censored}ing ridiculous. Members El Grinder
People forget how much the transformers influence the sound of a tube amp, along with the interaction between the transformers and speakers... Since I'm not a tube guru, I'm wondering if the 2150 just runs at a different plate voltage than the 2/90/2...
Members boogieman_dan
 a 9100 has 2 duets of 6L6's running at 50 watts/ side a 2150 has 2 duest of 6550's running at over 120 watts/ side why would the 9100 overpower the VHT? The VHT has the biggest transformers I've ever seen in an audio amp. Sorry for the confusion, I was referring to the 2150 and S500. My old bass player at one time had both s500 and 2150 in his rack...yes, he was power mad. Although he loved both he ended up selling the 2150 and keeping the Strategy 500. Members Dendroaspis
After years of playing nothing but Marshalls, Mesas and recently a Line 6 HD147, I've finally found the high gain tone Ive been looking for: VHT. After trying out my friend's 100CL head, I just yesterday bought a new 2902 power amp, which is the tightest, thumpiest, most solid tone I've had ever, I think. I promptly nicknamed this amp "The Hammer" That's it for me. I better put the VHT Death Squad logo in my sig too now. I'm not going anywhere else anytime soon. Members Hamer95USA
Hey guitarslinger, Here's a picture of my monster 20 space rack with my '89 Mesa Boogie Strategy 400 power amp. 200 watts per side of tube goodness!! 8 6L6GC power tubes & 4 EL-34 power tubes. It's like a Jaguar V12 engine block. Unfortunately, you better have ramps, a truck or van and a roadie to move that rack around. It's a back breaker, quite literally. I plan on possibly sizing that rack down soon. Guitar George

Members succubus
volume-wise, I'm guessing the mesa coliseum 300, strategy 400, and strategy 500 are contenders. tone-wise AND power-wise, is there anything that comes close? I have some of the worst GAS of my life. I have to have a 2150 now. I scared where that current auction is gonna go. Did you get a 2150? I can't even find one listed for sale anywhere. Well maybe this one. http://www.musicstorenetwork.com/store.php?itemid=403374900882-
Members succubus
Take a gander at THOSE transformers. And the tube compliment is made up of both 6L6WGB AND 6550A tubes. Does that Eventide get baked by the tubes, or does it stay cool?
Members Zachman
Does that Eventide get baked by the tubes, or does it stay cool? I keep my power amp in a seperate rack. The weight with it in the fx rack is ridiculous. Eventides don't like heat
Members succubus
Did you see this picture? Since the Eventide isn't wired, maybe its being used as a heatsink?

Members Zachman
That's El Grinder's Rig, BTW. After a closer look I see that it does have at least one rack space between, so I suppose it's fine, but... I still wouldn't do that, NOT that my way is the only right way or anything. Members succubus
Well, I scored a purple face VHT 2150. Based on Guitarslinger's excitement alone. Drove 100 miles to pick it up to save on shipping damage and cost. What a beautiful thing. Now I just have to wait until August for the Egnater M4 I have on order. Maybe I'll figure out what reverb to get between now and then.

Lexicon PCM-70 or higher versions: $600-over $1K Rocktron Intellifex: BF version couple hundred bucks. I have a PCM-80 and the Intellifex. They are both nice. Members Cougar Hunter
Better reverb than intellifex = rocktron intelliverb, 24 bit room modeller. lotsa parameters. about $200-$275 used. BTW, that power amp looks stellar. great colour. Now, if I could just get my hands on the blue 2150 which is even rarer.
Members succubus
I've never seen a blue one. Budget? Whats a budget? Bypass is important, no need to digitize the sound if you don't have to. I was considering and RE-501 Space Echo even. Maybe a Space Echo and a Lexicon PCM-91 with a GCX or Switchblade in between. But with a purple amp, I probably need a pink reverb. Oh, and then there's a need for speakers. I have a Marshal 1960a cab right now, but since I'm keeping the TSL100 head thats sort of in use. I'd like something smaller, but those 2x12 cabs always sound so muddy.
