Members kmok86
This may have been discussed before .... or not. but anyways. I remember seeing somehwere that you shouldn't plug a fan into a DMX dimmer. But what about a straight up switches or relay? Thanks and Happy Holidays everyone! Members soundlight
Putting a fan on a dimmer can damage the dimmer and/or the fan. But if you use a true relay switch pack there's no issue.
Members BillESC
You can get a true DMX fan from Le Maitre.

But what about a straight up switches or relay? Thanks and Happy Holidays everyone! You can put a fan on some dimmers. The way to know which dimmer will accept a fan is to check whether it can deal with 'inductive loads'. Most big boy dimmers like Avolite ART racks etc don't mind inductive loads. If you put a fan on a dimmer that doesn't like inductive loads, it'll tend to burn out the Triac which isn't exactly an expensive fix (if you do it yourself). The main problem is that when a Triac goes closed circuit (fails) the fan will get stuck on full speed until the dimmer or fan is unplugged..
