Members ned911
So I've got a line on some cheap ( Additionally thinking we could use these as mains for small gigs where the stage barely fits 2 wedges. This would keep us from lugging the PV SP5's and help our backs. Via the search it looks like there is a mixed review on these monitors. Any additional thoughts. Members Al Poulin
The Y112 is from Yorkville`s Performance (budget) series and while they may be adequate for monitors in some situations, are not in the same class as the SP5s. If the SP5s are recent, they will do a much better job for mains as they sound much better, produce much more bottom end (only important if you're not using subs),have a real compression driver/horn (not a piezo tweeter) and will handle much more power. They are heavier of course but have a 15'' woofer and are a good quality, excellent sounding cabinet IMO. A better choice than Y112s if you want to save your backs would be Yorkville`s NX35s that are 30lbs, 350 watts and can work as monitors or mains and sound great doing both. Al Poulin - Party-Time! Members SixStringSuperf
The company I work for uses the Y112 a lot . They are excellent sounding speakers for the price. We use them in our cheaper rental systems because they sound pretty good and they're relatively disposable.
