How to hook a receiver up to a powered mixer

I would like to run my stereo receiver through my Mackie 808S powered mixer. I want to be able to have stereo through my mains for my turntable and CD player as well as fm radio. I plugged unbalanced RCA jacks into the tape out on the receiver to the XLR to the stereo mic/line in channel 7 on the Mackie. This works except I don’t seem to have a stereo signal.  Do I need balanced cables to get stereo?  Or should I run from the receiver to the Mains power amp in?

You'll need to go into 2 channels on your Mackie. The XLR in is a Single channel with a balanced input. Pin 1 ground, Pin 2 positive and pin 3 should be the same as pin 2 but it's Polarity reversed. Use your Mackie 1/4 inch Line inputs on each channel.  You can get RCA Phono Plug to 1/4 inch jack adaptors for the Left and Right outs and go into 2 channels on the Mackie.
