All of the players of that time ended up going insane from overexposure to the lead in glass.

Doubtful that the lead in the glass was the problem.

There is lead in all glass, but it is encapsulated.

 

It's always been rumored that the vibrations were messing with their central nervous systems and giving them Parkinsons-type symptoms.

That glass trombone sounded pretty bad, actually. Maybe that's why he didn't play it open, but disguised the sound with a plunger ;)

 

 

And hmmm, combining Jonathan's and SBB's posts, I wonder what pitch would have to be played on the glass trombone for it to spontaneously break :D

Thats a great idea! But who'd be dumb enough to hold a piece of shattering glass...
