Members jcn37203
What would you say is the best amp, in terms of dollar/performance ratio, available today? We can talk new or used, but I guess new is a better indicator since there isn't a set price for used items.

Members PB Wilson
For cheap, you'll have a hard time beating a Peavey Classic 30 or 50. Same goes with the Crate (yes Crate!) V-series. For the over $1K, I'd say a Dr. Z might fit. Excellent construction and a flavor for everyone except over the top gain freaks.

I scored a '66 J-12T for $270 last year. Great sounding amp, but I found that 15-20 watt 1x12's just aren't my thing.

Members Headlow
I'd like to second the votes for both the Vox Pathfinder and the Pro Junior. Both great amps on their own, but even better when you run them together

Members fishfartz
i think the epi Galaxie10 takes it for either bedroom or lower level rehearsal/jams with light drummer. you do have to throw in some extra $$ for a certain pair of tubes (jan5751-pre and sed6L6gc-power) and a better speaker, but then you have a killer little amp. i actually sold my blues jr., champ, and classic 30 after finding those tubes/speaker that really warmed the amp up. but for band playing id say the classic30, if i didnt already have a jcm800 i would have kept the 30 for louder playing, its just that i didnt need it after sweetening up the galaxie10

Members kerb
I'd go Pro Jr if I played country or something. But the Blues Jr is far more rock and roll, and I prefer 12" speakers.

Also, the lack of features is one of the things which make the Epi attractive to me.
