Members pinkjimiphoton
wrote this as a response to a friend who (possibly rightly) is a wee bit paranoid.... this is all the crap i use, except i use Norton at the monment rather than AVG. anyways, if this info is useful to you or someone you know, feel free to pass it on. all this stuff is free or register ware. some of the suggestions apply specifically to AOL users....if not relevant, don't worry about it. this is all stuff i use regularly and recommend personally. ok, ready? kerio personal firewall downloadhttp://www.kerio.com/kpf_download.html A Squared Downloadhttp://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/ Microsoft Anti Spyware Downloadhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en Grisoft AVG Free Downloadhttp://www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/ww WinPatrol Downloadhttp://www.winpatrol.com/winpatrol.html BHODemon Downloadhttp://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm Ewido Security Suite Downloadhttp://www.ewido.net/en/ Lavasoft AdAware Free Downloadhttp://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/ Spybot Search & Destroy Downloadhttp://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/ HighjackThis Downloadhttp://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html Spywareblaster Downloadhttp://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html Winsock Fix Downloadhttp://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html IP NetInfo Downloadhttp://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/IPNetInfo/IPNetInfo.html Sockettome and Socket Lock Downloadhttp://grc.com/dos/sockettome1.htm CoolWebSearch Shredder Downloadhttp://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html Spoofstick Downloadhttp://www.spoofstick.com/ Stephen Gould Cleanup Downloadhttp://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/ Pinkster's Keylogger Detectorhttp://www.philandrews.com/jp/kldetector.zip Mlin Startup Download (control panel applet)http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml Autoruns Downloadhttp://www.snapfiles.com/get/autoruns.html but first and foremost, when ya get a clean machine... don't open emails with attachments from folks you REALLY don't know!!!!!!!!!!!! #1 way to get all infested. also beware of "political" websites, they are often under attack or loaded with malware...particularly if the page seems a bit wack. install all this {censored}, keep it updated, run everything at least once a week or so (firewall ALWAYS ON) and finally, run aol's proprietary anti spyware that comes with aol 9....it will find some things all the others miss. good luck, keep me posted, and feel free to forward this all over the place. peace jimi
Members Tag
Those are good ones mentioned above... Be careful though. For instance, you can really screw up your computer with Hijack This if you don't know what you're doing. There are a few forums where you can post your Hijack This log and they'll tell you what to delete/keep.
