Just Like Suicide - Soundgarden

Godzilla - Blue Oyster Cult

and lately i've really been digging a lot of Tom Morello's stuff - like the solo for Shadow on the Sun

but that stuff may not stand the test of time, who knows...

Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing

Classic!

I would add a couple of Steely Dan solos: My Old School (Jeff "Skunk" Baxter), and Kid Charlemagne (Larry Carlton).

And for some reason, I've always liked the solo to Tull's Aqualung (Martin Barre).

I think the most perfect solo ever is Marc Ribot's twang cubano thing on Tom Wait's "Jockey Full of Bourbon"

Other Faves:

Steve Cropper - Green Onions
Tom Verlaine - Friction
Robert Quine - Starin' In Her Eyes
Phil Manzanera/Brian Eno - China, My China
McGaughlin's rude interruptions in "On The Corner"
Travis Whammick -- Its Karate Time
The Byrds - Eight Miles High
Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes
Funkadelic - Maggot Brian
Hubert Sumlim - Ain't Supersitious
Serge Gainsbourg - Les Sucettes (bubblegum wah wah)

oh, and i'll add "What'cha Gonna Do About It"--Steve Marriot plays a one-note solo that just kicks butt.

and if we're going outside of the guitar world: bill evans on the last song on kind of blue and coltrane on my favorite things. love that change to the major! :)

Way too many great solos out there, but here's some of my favorites that I haven't seen mentioned, yet.

Aqualung - Jethro Tull
Black Napkins - Frank Zappa
The Torture Never Stops - Frank Zappa - the woman screaming in the background is one of the most {censored}ed up things I've evev heard, and I like it.
Bridge of Sighs - Robin Trower
White Room - Cream
Voodoo Chile (slight return) - Jimi Hendrix
Working Man - Rush
8 Miles High - The Byrds
Mr. Fantasy - Traffic
