Members keyman-sam
Ok, i shoulda been more clear. I need a KEYBOARD with keys to play with. So that, when i come to houston, i dont have to bring my keyboard to play anything. In houston, i dont HAVE anything to play with. I figured, well i'm gonna spend money, so why not make it something i can use it in the future?

Stuff comes along every hour. Sometimes keyboards can be gained at a pretty low price but you may have known this.
Members keyman-sam
ChasIII, THATs the type of stuff im talking about (the sy22). I need to see more of that. SPeakers, hmm....not necessary, so it doesnt matter if it had/doesnt have speakers.

Members keyman-sam
Thanks chas! Currently i'm looking at a K-1 from ebay. Can you post more of these synths?
Members flat earth
You might squeeze an old Korg X5 or the better X5D. Small, compact and suprisingly good sounds for its price.
Members keyman-sam
Yes, i did ebay that one too, but it was around 200-250, out of my price range.
Members Umbra
Buy a used microkorg, yah I know probaby around $250 but it's small and you can run off batteries and learn to be a programmer instead of a preset player.
Members keyman-sam
Again, read the thread title. I want 61 keys so that I can play across an acceptable range. I'm not a beginner in creating presets, so i'll have to pass on the microkorg. Plus, it doesnt even have full size keys. I seriously dont know how that thing is even selling. Members flat earth
Its worth noting the D20 version has a decent on-board sequencer.
Members keyman-sam
Noted. However, i'd be equally happy without an onboard sequencer, considering that i'm going to leave my alesis MMT-8 here as well.
Members keyman-sam
ooooo.......flat earth, i'm jealous of your rig. You gots an MC-50!!! I've used (a friend of mine owned it) an MC-50 mk2 before and its the beez kneez when it comes to a sequencer.
Members keyman-sam
Korg N5 going past 200. Cant bid on that one. Crosses my budget. How is the kawai comparable to Korg? Which one has better sounds?
Members Sealed
KORG romplers have better sound quality. I think all ai2 synths have nearly the same sound quality, except 01/W's waveshaping sounds. So X5, i5 etc. would be good alternatives if you want something cheaper than N5. KAWAI romplers - K4 and K11 - has unique sounds, especially with the AM feature. I recommend K4 better than K11. K4 has some bugs - filter envelope often produce click noise - but sounds fatter. My site hosts .mp3 demos of these synths, FYI. Other inexpensive romplers would be:Ensoniq SQ-RKORG M1, M3RRoland D-70YAMAHA QS300, TG300
