Members conho
I know people tend to avoid putting a delay pedal in between the amp and guitar. But my new amp has no loop and i want to use delay. Are there any delays units that don't sound bad in front of the amp, or any tips for pulling this off?Cheers
Members jackpotjewell
I've never used an effects loop on an amp. I have an old twin and I always use my dd-20 in front. Sounds fine to me.
Members mumford
I don't have a loop. I don't think delays sound bad in front, just different. A lot more like reverb, more organic/grungy to my ears.
Members telepete
yeh dont worry about it mate, i use mine up front and it sounds great.
Members Wilbo26
I use all of my delays, and all effects in general in front of my amp and have had no problems. Some amps might need a delay to be in the loop, but I've never used one that did.
Members rickenvox
yeah, everyone with a vintage amp and no effects loop that uses echo puts it in front of the amp. I'm definitely not gonna mod a pristine 71 Marshall Superlead for an effects loop. Rather sound bad than that!

I plan on doing this for my Blues Jr.

Members ilovesharinfoo
I've never used an effects loop either. Out front sounds good to my ears. Justin.
Members endo23
+1 None of my amps have effects loops. I use lots of delays, and analog ones at that.
Members Morning Glory
Yea, but my Blues Jr doesn't have an effects loop.
Members freeridstylee
Only time i think you really need to put it in the loop is if your using a high gain preamp, the delays get compressed, louder and harsher. I run mine b/f my amp!

Yup, I have a BJ also, and if you're worried about noise, any cheap TB looper will take care of it, and you can make a much more complex loop that way than just using an amps fx loop. Members murch33
No loop here, and I've gone through a number of different delays, both digital and analog.

Members markmann
Metal tones are better with delay in the loop but for clean to moderate dirt I actually prefer my delay out front. I have a Mesa Boogie with a loop and I use a DD-20 out front.
Members Blungo
I've never had an amp with a loop.I use delays and verbs in front of the amp,AFAIK many people have done so for many years with no ill effects.
Members varialbender
Doesn't matter much at all when your amp is clean. The dirtier your amp is, the more the loop makes a difference. When it's in the loop, it's like the entire sound repeats, whereas when it's in front of the amp, if you're playing at the same time as your repeats, it's dirtier than if it was just one sound or the other, if that makes sense. Anyway, shouldn't make a difference to you.
Members Headlow
I use my delay in front of the amp. In the past I put it through the loop. To tell the truth it did nothing for me, so i didn't see the point of carrying the extra leads needed to make use of the loop.
Members Robzilla
yes i like it more in the loop. i use quite some dirt in my band and when i put the delay before the loop it becomes a mess..
Members markmann
Yep, I've tried it both ways and with lots of dirt the delay sounds cleaner in the loop. But with clean to moderate dirt I actually prefer delay in front of the amp and I find that with these tones I like the sound better. Like Headlow mentioned, why deal with extra cables if you don't need to?
Members t_e_l_e
i'm useing all my pedals including two delays phaser and flanger in front of the amp (classic 30), but when i use one of them i'm only useing the clean channel of the c30the lead channel is only used with out modulation effects because if the effects run in front the sound gets warbly......i might consider useing them in the loop but its a more complex setup and you have to bother with yet another two cables and i'm tooo lazy to do so.on the other hand i have 4 dirt boxey also on the board so if i need dirt and modulation i get all what i want from the board and don't need the lead channel
Members Steven Edmunds
I use an old Twin with no loop and I have my DD20 last in line on my board (after all the dirt boxes). If you have a high gain amp you
