Members wednesdaysworse
I have a MI Blue Boy Deluxe on the way and am interested in experimenting with different Op Amp chips using the built in IC socket. I have considered TL072, OPA2134PA and OP2604AP chips. It comes with classic JRC4558D chip.Has anyone done this? Any info or feedback is appreciated. Members powerplayj
There's a long thread over at The Gear Page.com that addresses this quite well. I'm kicking myself because I just placed a Mouser order and totally forgot to buy a few chips for experimenting with the BBD.
Members StratStevo
Try the StratStevo Chip, cleaner and less sizzle and background noise than a TLO82CP. I also like the TL072ACN

Members erksin
I'd also recommend the LM833N (my fave) and the LM1458... The #1 biggest thing you need to remember - there is a small dot on one of the corners of all chips, it's there for orientation purposes. *MAKE SURE YOU NOTE WHERE THAT DOT IS ON THE OLD CHIP AND MAKE SURE TO ORIENT THE NEW CHIP IN THE SAME POSITION!* Bad things can happen if you don't... Members erksin
The LM833N and LM1458 are both less compressed and more open sounding than the stock chip but still smooth. The TL072 is grittier, IMO...

No not really and I found the Burr Brown OPA2134PA chip to be very murky/muddy, go ahead and get one anyway....most chips are under a buck
Members therhodeo
The burr brown OP2604AP is supposed to be really open and uncompressed.

That wasn't the impression it left with me, maybe on paper?
