Members gr8fuldodd
I heard the new Defense Secretary, Robert Gates say "failure in Iraq, at this juncture, would be a calamity that would haunt our nation, impair our credibility, and endanger Americans for decades to come." Really, what would happen and how would it change anything? In my mind there's just a delay in the inevitable; a civil war that will most likely end up in a Shiite state. So what's the difference if we leave now or later?

If they leave right now and are attacked again, I doubt the rest of the world would have any sympathy, nor would there be anybody to attack. I doubt they're going to re-enter a war with iraq after giving up the first time.

Members gr8fuldodd
Originally posted by jasonfuzz America leaves --> People get pissed and plan attacks --> America gets attacked again --> Re-enter Iraq? okay, this is assuming people aren't already pissed and won't attack if we are in Iraqand Iraq didn't attack us in the first placeI don't support entering most places if we are attackedthere's plenty military destruction that can be done without occupyingthat's assuming the US was attacked by a sovereing entity with a military so let's assume the US leftif the entity that assumes control of Iraq does then mount some sort of attack, then I suppose, yes, go back and defend ourselvesBUT, never occupy again
