Gibson's been doing a "guitar of the week" for the past while... they make 400 each week and it's usually something strange, sometimes they are REALLY cool though... like all the silverburst stuff they've put out, and I kinda like those sg's with the singles... I love the feel of SG's and not so much the feel of strats, so it'd be cool to have something like that.

Anybody seen this?

The gibson ES339, at first I thought it was a cheaper CS336, but I think it's actually a bit cooler than that now. It is constructed just like a 335, laminated maple on all sides, instead of the LP-like 336 that is maple on top and a one piece carved mahogany back. It is the same size as a les paul, and Gibson claims that none of the woodiness or open tone of the 335 is lost in the downsizing.

It's made by the custom shop, has 57 classic pickups, and is absolutely beautiful... and at 1799$ it's 500$ less than a les paul standard. And a good bit less than the cheapest 335.

Sweet!! I'm really glad to hear about the 339! I've played a few 336's and somthing wasn't right about them... Looks like they revamped it into the 339.
Nice!

does anyone find it sad that gibson gave tom delonge a signature 335 before roy orbison???

being a capitalist at heart, no.

Willing to say blink sold more albums at a better margin than Roy ever did.

Oh yeah, and DeLonge is still alive. Somewhat difficult for a dead man to play your guitar.

Smart move for the management. Willing to say that while a lot of people know and love Roy, being that fact that he has been dead for a while and not putting out music means a faster shrinking of buyers who recognize his name vs. those that recognize DeLonge's. Which equals potentially more sales for the less featured and less labor intensive Delonge model....

Cost/Benefit.

As for 335 players, I like Alvin Lee.
