Members bubbleboyjones
http://www.musicsites.com/silverchair/Equipment/Daniel/Pedals/5/ I was looking up Daniel Johns tone of Silverchair and it turns out he was using a Fuzz Factory for many of the heavier songs(Or Heavier Parts) My question is does it sound like he is just using a Fuzz Factory alone for that tone or is he using a Fuzz Factory on top of his Soldano Hot Rod 100 amps distortion? http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2w7xi_silverchair-freak-big-day-out-20102_music Freak^^ One Way Mule ^^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD2bYuPhgYQ The Greatest View ^^
Members Saturday
Freak is a 11+ year old song. i'm pretty sure than the fuzz factory appeared after it, so i dont think it was used there.i used to love that band back when i was 13-14 years old. 'Freak', that was an awful tune indeed.
Members gold_soundz
He used to use an old little big muff and that seems to fit their sound so perhaps look at those? Thats an early 90s ff pictured, so perhaps he did use it.

Actually Mesa Boogie amps were used on that record for the most part so he never played the original equipment live. But heres a quote from the site Firstly, the insane Z.vex Fuzz Factory which was first used at the 2000 Falls Festival for the new song Hollywood. This is a hand-built and hand-painted pedal that is used for Diorama songs like The Greatest View, Hollywood, The Lever, Ramble, One Way Mule, Pins In My Needles and Without You. Daniel also now uses this pedal in older songs like Freak and Anthem For The Year 2000. Daniel?s is a very early model of the pedal. This is now one of Daniel?s main pedals and is used a lot. I agree with that quote...the tone on Freak is the same as the newer heavy songs...Im sure its a Fuzz Factory. Im wondering if anyone here with a Fuzz Factory thinks that he is getting that tone with just a Fuzz Factory or is he using the Fuzz Factory to color in the amp distortion. Members tkachuk07
Well on Freak he goes from a dirty sound, to somewhat clean & back to dirty during that "Body & soul I'm a freak" part. I'm not aware that Daniel has a switching system that would change amp sounds & engage the pedal all with one stomp. My guess is it's just the pedal into the clean amp sound you hear in the clip posted.
