Members mcinku
...it's a cool pedal but it doesn't work very well with low output SC guitars. Would using a compressor in front of Af-9 be a good thing to do. Just to give it a little more juice. ...but would a sustain the comp has work well with the Af-9. I know what you will say... try it out I just want some opinions before I start tearing my pedalboard apart.
Members johnrambo
i found it much easier to get the af-9's filter to trigger if i had my SCP running in front of it. without the boost i had to dig in pretty hard on my tele to get it to work how i wanted. i think with a little boost from a compressor you could get similar results. Members bowlingshirt
Make sure you have the sensitivity adjusted right. It can take a little bit of experimenting to find the sweet spot.
Members Chris Loeffler
What he said. If you are a visual person like me, it's kind of hard to deal with the fact that the best settings I found for the AF-9 (with single coils) are both sliders almost all the way down. That said, the AF-9 is one of the more musical (but subtle) envelope filters I have played. It sounds very natural and can actually be so transparent as to sound more like a dynamic enhancer than a "wah-a-like". If you want huge sound, go for the EHX XO Mini Q-Tron. I have both and prefer the AF-9.
