  1. Any recommendations? All I know about tube amps came from web... ...maybe start here http://www.tone-lizard.com/Do_Your_Homework.htm
  2. i hvae been obsessed with ordering one of these and building it all by myself (sell, maybe with a little help!!!) but i have no idea what im doing....HELP!!!!!!! anyways, for those of you that have built a CERIATONE amp, how was it? hard? right now i am practicing my soldering....what else do i need to be able to do? the instructions are all i really need right? The problem is not with building the amp, all you need is a layout and that's it. The problem is when something goes wrong (and it will). In order to troubleshoot you'll need more than a soldering skills. Besides, building an amp can be a dangerous thing, so if you don't know nothing about the amp (how it works), I would rather let Nik build one for you. ... or start reading some books.
  3. so what should I go for...the 5E3 circuit or the dumble clone? Sorry to say that but only you can decide. Listen to the clips really closely and decide what is more you... Overtone is a beast, versatile with a lot of options and on the other hand, 5E3 is an amp which screams passion, to me at least. 5E3 has this ability to reflect the state of your soul very nicely. What ever you decide rest assured, you'll end up with an awesome amp.
  4. haha! Very nice my friend, very nice indeed.. How is it working out? I have never tied to amps together...How much does it cost for the a/b switch or whatever? My guess is you use the ceriatone for some crunch and the deluxe for pretty cleans, correct? Awesome. Thanks. I've been using this rig mostly by daisy-chaining both amps together. I have a simple A/B switch but one of these days I'm buying this... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BigShotABY/ With a box like that you can use amp A or B or even A+B... whatever feels good to you.
  5. Would it be possible to use the deluxe clone as my crunchy sound and my twin for my clean sound? almost like two channels? can you a/b switch them or something? decisions, decisions... This is my rig and I believe an answer to your question
  6. I like that clip man. Was both guitar tracks the tweed clone? Good thing I have a tele and a strat.haha. What pickups are in your tele? Do you think the 5E3 can get SRV tones? or the overtone? Yes both tracks are tweed tone... clean is tele-neck and solo is tele-bridge... just guitar and a cable with some reverb on the end. The pickups are Fender CS Nocasters. But you should know my 5E3 is moded with 6L6, GZ34 tubes and I also added so called 'Bruce Collins Vol/Tone Mod.' Here's one clip, strat with a stock Ceriatone 5E3 using 2X12 cabinet with Celestion G12 Century speakers. Not mine BTW...this clip is from Ceriatone forum. http://www.guitarampcab.com/TWDdlx.mp3 SRV tone is not exactly tweed tone. He's more BF Fender clean with TS-9 but in order to get his thick tone you would also need right pickups with heavy strings and his fingers of course. IMHO what you need is an amp which will feel right to you and you should not try to match SRVs tone, at the end you will be disappointed, 'cause nobody can't get his tone.
  7. I'm extremely interested in getting a ceriatone. I had my mind set on a 5E3 circuit clone but you all are drawing me towards the dumble "clone". How do they compare? I'm looking for a gritty blues tone. I love a great clean but I'm mostly interested in that hairy grit tone like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins etc. What is the best Ceriatone amp for me!??? 5E3 + tele = awesome blues tone, match made in heaven IMHO This is how my my 5E3 sounds like through Greenback tele + 5E3 5E3 is different animal compared to Overtone. Overtone clean is closer to BF Fender I would say and OD sounds like a Dumble I guess, think Robben Ford or Larry Carlton. 5E3 is all about tweed tone, middly, touch sensitive... think Neil Young or early ZZ Top. I have Overtone coming and I already own 5E3 and BF Champ from Ceriatone.
  8. Overtone is 50W and how it sounds... take a look SC guitar HB guitar
  9. So how would you describe the DC-30 then, tone-wise? And the Overtone is the Dumble clone, am I right? Don't know much about DC-30 but I always thought these amps are more Voxish sounding. Overtone is Dumble inspired amp, not really a clone.
  10. Fender-ish clean with awesome OD, only one would do that IMO... ...Overtone is your amp.
  11. To be honest, I know nothing about cabinets, so getting a head instead of a combo seems a bit intimidating. Probably sounds silly, but I'm just getting into the world of amplifiers. Am I worrying over nothing? Why intimidating? You just need to know what fits you better. Sometimes head is even better. Just think, it enables you to use different cabs with different speakers for completely different sound. All this with one single amp. Just a thought.
  12. Nik just emailed me about his new line of Rolexxx watches!
  13. Looks like the first batch will only be available in a head format. I may wait until Nik starts production on the combos.
  14. Does Ceriatone make a Vibroverb clone? As far as I know, he is making one but not sure when it will be released for the general public. It's just a rumor. This is the place where I found out about it. http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=95.msg838;boardseen#new
  15. Sweet, I just placed an order with Nik.. 18WTMB with 1/2 power switch! All wrapped up in a nice black cabinet.. Gonna be awesome!
  16. The amp should be here by this coming weekend if Nik sent it out today. Yes, I will record some clips and maybe some video and post to youtube. I've been really busy building and tweaking, and my band is "taking a break" so my playing has turned to crap. Bare that in mind. Careful guys,, this amp is only but a very loose interpretation of the early Dumble ODS from the 70's. The typical dumble tones made famous by Ford, Carlton and others is a later 80's circuit so this amp by design is A-typical. I really need to sit down with several schematics and layouts to get all the differences straight. If any of you are interested in the nitty gritty of the Dumble world go over to the Dumble discussions at ampgarage.com. You will need to register and log in but there is a wealth of info to learn from some of the best amp gurus on the planet. A word of warning though....DO NOT POST anything without thoroughly researching. It ain't like HC...lol. I won't even speculate what Nik's amp is going to sound like but I had an old Bassman that I tweaked to be .....ahem.......dumbleish and of course I still have my Brownnote D'lite which is in a similar vein of amp. For those thinking of buying the Overtone be aware that there is a reason this amp is far more expensive than any of Nik's other offerings. In terms of build difficulty I would say it is on the extreme side. Even if you buy the completed version if you should have something go haywire it's going to be really tough to troubleshoot. However, a good tech should have no problem so if you have the inclination.....go for it. It's great to see Kitarist taking the initiative to get a Ceriatone forum going. I for one support his efforts and enthusiasm. Chris Youtube is fine but sometimes it's really laking in the sound quality. So please clips first, youtube second. That is why I want those clips... I'm in love with Robben F. sound and I was hoping that this amp will put me in the neighborhood of his sound just a little bit. I know it won't make me sound like him but still, just a bit and I'm happy.. Can you describe (in plain words) what is the difference between Dumble ODS from the 70's and later 80's circuit?
  17. ie 'assembled board' 'full working chassis' I think if you go for package 1 and 2 you must put the board in the chassis and do some wiring, on the other hand if you go for package 3 or 4 everything is done for you just put the tubes in.
  18. As far as I know the cleans are very twin like if you wish. It's perfect amp actually (for me at least). Beautiful Fender cleans with some nice bite on top of it. If you want to know how it sounds, just go to youtube and look for Robben Ford.
  19. And we have a winner!!!!! Yep, line voltage in Japan is 100V making for a pain in the butt with vintage gear.....either change out the PT or carry around step up transformer. One reason I love Nik is he winds export PT's at no extra charge. So, dinner is on me....should I inform my wife we are having a guest?? Yes, I finally won something. :D Just do the clips for me and I'll be a happy man.
  20. It's staring right at ya man. What taps do you see coming of the PT?? The problem is, I don't know what kind of voltage you use in Japan. 100V ?? It has to be.
  21. I will record some clips too. No worries. Just don't take to long. My trigger finger is itching like hell. I need a little push and I think a good clip will do it.
  22. Well, if you're coming all this way you might as well get a nice sushi feast. Just remember to not bring an amp because it won't work over here....hint hint... I will record some clips too. No worries. OK guys it's the PT just don't know what yet.
  23. Hey, are those grey little tubes from Japan like SUSHI !!
  24. Now, you're getting warm. It is in the guts,, "at the HEART of the matter". Can't find anything there ...but here is something for you. 'cause you're the first owner of this amp, it's your duty to record some clips for us. I don't care how you do it, you just have to. If you don't, I'm coming there to get you.
