Members Folky_Grunge
I think the Crazy Horse is probably your best option, since it was made specifically to get Neil's sound. But, do you really want to take the $250 plunge? What's your price range? I can get my OS-2 kinda close to a Neil Young sound, but it sounds too compressed and a little harsh. I have a Maxon SD9 on the way, though, and I'll tell you if that can get closer.
Members english_bob
MkII Tonebender? I think you'll find it way too smooth and high gain for Neil Young sounds. I'm not a huge NY fan, but from my memory of "Cortez the Killer" (which I'm guessing is somewhere in your ballpark) it's closer to a Fuzz Face sound than a MkII. Members steinwand
thanx for the advicenow i am thinking about a colorsound overdriver clone ... my choice right now would be the throbak overdrive boostercause i have heard that the prescreption overdriver is like NY in a boxbut i like the throbak more ... i know that i am never going to nail the sound of an age old full crankedtweed with a fender reverb unit in front going into some strange speakers ...but i am satisfied in getting close ... besides the fact that i never will beable to play like NY ... i just like the sound ;-)
