vocoder on "Hide and Seek"?

haha yeahhhh I was wondering about this a while ago... there are some interesting interviews with Imogen lying around the internets.

 

I agree with Audacity, it's not actually a vocoder. (that would be too easy :-P ) It's some kind of harmonizer, probably something like this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VoiceLive/

 

I heard that she got the melody by playing large chords into an 8-voice unit. The random note drops are pretty important to the song, and supposedly makes it very difficult to perform live.

I like a lot of music, and I like a lot of Imogen's music, but for me, this will always be *the* track. I think it's a wonderfully artistic use of technology.

Agreed - and apparently it has struck a chord (no pun intended) with the media as evidenced by all the TV shows that have incorporated it.

 

You know you've got a hit when SNL features it in one of their "digital shorts"
