Members L6Sguy
they probably knew a couple folks, or knew a guy who knew a guy, some of which might've had a stompbhox or two. doesnt seem unlikely that they'd have been turned on to something, something gear-related, by somebody else, at some point in time. Phil O'Keefe
Don't forget that, as a division of EMI, Abbey Road had not only access to the REDD electronics facility, but also had a very capable gear testing, repair and development department on-site; there are reports of the Beatles using dirt boxes that were custom made in-house at Abbey Road too. Members smogfalls
a few months ago I did a clip of the D*A*M 1966 pedal with my Beatles-esque set up (Epiphone Elitist Casino). I only did a quick little clip but it's here if you want to check it out... http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7141830 I had it in Superbee mode. But in standard "66" mode it totally nails that Savoy Truffle sound. Xan
Members Flogger59
The Beatles had a Maestro hanging around since 1964, and tape exists of Martin telling Lennon to "Turn that noisy thing off". The Maestro got recorded on Think For Yourself, but on one of the bass parts (bass was double tracked). I have read an interview where it is stated that the guitar was amped through a Fender, then put through the two mic pres in series. Martin was listening to them jam Revolution, and Lennon was cranking his amp. In true soundman tradition he was asked to turn down, and Lennon, a true guitar player, responded with "But that's my sound, man!"So the two distorted mic pres was called into service. In Recording The Beatles, they have stated that the "secret weapon" amp was a brownface Bassman, and the boys would always be stealing it from each other.
