Nobody on TV shows knows how to mix a live rock band, why should they? They didn't work that path up, they started at FullSail carried with them a "degree" & little real life experience. I've always chalked part of that up to compression. You notice on TV when a live band really kicks in with the sound it suddenly gets quieter instead of louder?
