Members wjbratcher
i tried the silver alnico, the blue alnico and the blue ceramic from weber as well the red fangs from eminence. they all sounded pretty cool. depends on the sound you want. if you want authentic get: 1. Celestion blues (chimiest)2. Weber Blue alnicos3. Eminence red fangs (a little cheaper, I think) if you want a harder, more rocking sound: 1. Weber Blue or Silver ceramic2. Weber Silver Alnicos (very warm)3. Greenbacks The Blues are brighter than the Silvers for the Webers. Two Silvers can be a tad muddy and also reduce the apparent loudness of the amp, which I guess is an efficiency issue. The best value is the Blue ceramics and the best sounding are the alnicos. Also consider mixing speakers if you want to combine certain sounds.
Members Stazinish
I'm thinking of maybe getting a Celestion Blue and a Greenback for mine.
Members goaway
screw blues, get greenbacks. best tones i've ever heard come out of an AC30. blues seem a little over the top for the brightness
Members mrweems
I currently have a weber alnico blue dog 30w pre rola. And the stock wharfdale. So far there hasn't been a "whole" lot of tonal difference in the sound. I mean i will say its a bit brighter. Slightly tighter and the bass is becoming more profound sounding. Not to mention i get a little more speaker distortion than i did with the regular speaker. And i always mic the blue when we play. its most noticable on the tonal difference here though. Prior it sounded very muddy. Now if i can get another blue or a silver would be fine as well. thats the plan.
Members amarr1
I might try the red fangs, i've had great results with eminence in the past with my epi cabs. Those sounded great.
