Members incufan7
I am a volume pedal noob! Yeah I know tragic right? So basically I use the volume on my guitar a lot for swells or getting different dirty tones/cleaning up a dirty amp. I am wondering, is this what a volume pedal run before your dirt is for? Like, is it just a foot controlled version of the knob on your guitar? Also what brand is most respected? I have looked into the boss FV500H, visual sounds, and Ernie Ball. What is the difference between Ernie ball jr 25k and 250k? I use passive pickups so I would use a passive volume pedal right? Sorry for all the questions, I really am a noob. Members Rizza
What is the difference between Ernie ball jr 25k and 250k? In general, 25k is put between/after your pedals or used as an expression pedal. 250k is put first in your pedal chain, after the guitar. Not sure about that last question. Members incufan7
Rizza, is it possible to use the fv500 as a volume and expression pedal at the same time (ex. I wouldn't have to disconnect it from my chain to use it as an expression pedal).
Members Rizza
Technically yes, but you'd cut the sound off when using it?
Members vertigo_
ernie ball sucks tone! If budget is not a problem, then look into hilton or goodrich! If budget is a problem, then just get the boss fv-500H for passive pickup guitars.
Members PatrickF
The Boss ones are really nice. The Little Alligator is good if you can get past the size. It's active so there's no tone loss and it has a minimum volume knob. It can be had on the cheaps too.
Members gambit
from my experience, passive volume pedaks are always going to suck tone. some of them are horrendous.. most are just terrible. the next one i get will be powered with a buffer etc. i've been considering a Morley Pro Volume/Wah II. Optical (no pot or piece of string to deteriorate/break) and blurb talks about 'true-tone' buffer that maintains the tone rather than chopping off a bnch of high frequencies. Members Jupp
I use passive pickups so I would use a passive volume pedal right? I don't think so. I think "passive" means, that it doesn't require any Power Supply..right?
Members Rogueweez
Don't overpay. I have a $25 volume pedal (rebadged Bevspeco?) that sounds better than the Morley. Better taper too.
