Members companyman
So I am trying to sell my Epi Firebird for financial reasons....there was a {censored}storm recently here about it...but forget that....so when I get things sorted I'm thinking of picking up an Agile guitar with P-90's, cuz they are really cheap, and pretty decent guitars overall. But I adore the sound of a Firebird mini-humbucker in the neck position for clean sounds, the best clarity/beef/singing quality in a neck pickup I have tried. My question is, have any of you tried to put a Mini-Bucker Firebird pickup into a P-90 route? My instinct tells me that a P-90 route will be too big for one, but the metal surround for a Firebird pickup might cover the extra space perhaps? Members Dbl A3
I've swapped the mini-bucks in an early 70's LP Deluxe for P-90s with zero routing. If the Firebird mini is the same as the LP mini it should work.
Members Dbl A3
Oh and now that I think about it Neil Young's main LP, that black one with the Bigsby (http://thrasherswheat.org/sound.htm) has a Firebird mini in the bridge and a P-90 in the neck. I read somewhere that it was originally a gold top with 2 P-90s so maybe the LP mini and the Firebird mini are the same size.
Members companyman
yeah, this is what I'm hoping, it looks like the metal surround is big enough to fill the route for the P-90, the Firebird mini pickup is smaller by itself though, at least I think it is....also not sure if the Les Paul mini (the one with the pole pieces) is the same size as the Firebird mini...I do know that they are constructed very differently. Members iodine74
You need these: http://www.guitarfetish.com/Mini-Humbucker-P90-Soapbar-Adapter-Rings-BLACK_c_239.html They have them in cream too. Been debating using them for Dillion JM copy I've got and a set of original Gibson Mini Buckers.
Members SonicVI
They're the same in Les Pauls because the minis use the adapter rings. Firebirds don't use the P90 sized rings so I'd be surprised if they were routed the same.
